THE WHO, WHAT & WHY OF ENCOREPRENEUR!
Earlier in their careers, Gary LeClair and Stan Maupin were among the founders of two business organizations – The Richmond Venture Forum and RichTech - because there seemed to be a need for quality networking and learning opportunities in the area's capital formation and technology business sectors.
For the last twenty years, those two organizations have been among Richmond’s largest and most influential business organizations because they served the needs of two vibrant and growing sectors of Richmond's business community.
In the summer of 2013, Gary and Stan founded Encorepreneur! to provide this same type of forum to help seasoned business leaders make their next business and personal accomplishments as successful, full of purpose and as fun as they have been in the past.
The group has started modestly with a series of breakfasts that combine great networking and interesting speakers in less than 90 minutes. To keep things more interesting and to expose attendees to new places, organizations and people, the breakfasts are held in diverse locations ranging from recording studios to universities, museums and non-profit headquarters and even an NFL training facility.
Response to the breakfast series has been better than expected. With an initial turnout of about 60, the group has grown to well over 200 attendees per meeting.
The largest-ever bubble of post-career business owners and executives are hitting the streets. As these baby boomers are selling their businesses, considering a final career, or anticipating retirement from their latest jobs, they are contemplating “what next?”
These business-minded boomers are beginning the last third of their lives with a deep desire to do purposeful work, contribute to their communities, continue to learn, and connect with like-minded, vital people. Golf and grandchildren are not enough.
In the future, Gary and Stan hope to implement new programs that recognize and support outstanding contributions by these boomers.
