"FROM 'THE BUSH' TO THE BOARDROOM"

You don’t often hear a banker described as someone you would be glad to have beside you in a foxhole, but our December speaker has been described that way by soldiers in Vietnam and by his business colleagues and friends.

On December 15th Joe will tell us about his experiences in both parts of his life.

A friend recently described him as “one of the few men on the planet who has called in fire from a battleship, and been close enough to the explosions to feel the shock. He did that in Vietnam and saved the patrol under his command.”  He was awarded three Bronze Stars for Valor for his heroic service on the front lines in Vietnam.

But to many of his colleagues he is also known for his lifetime of service as a businessman and a community leader. 

He recently retired as the Chairman and President of Middleburg Bank in in the Loudoun County suburbs of northern Virginia. Under Boling’s leadership since 1993, Middleburg grew from a single location with $16 million in capital into a diversified financial services company with 12 locations including Richmond and total capital of over $123 million. Joe also served as Chair of the Virginia Bankers Association for a decade.
