TED CHANDLER CoFounder & Managing Director
"HOME GROWN CAPITAL"
It is fitting that NRV is housed in a former feed and seed store in Shockoe Bottom. The firm has just closed on a $33 million "home grown" venture fund that will invest in high growth companies located in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
At our June meeting, Ted Chandler is going to tell us the recently closed fund, and about NRV’s plans to increase its already significant investments in local and regional high growth companies. Ted will also talk about the local and regional venture marketplace, some exciting current projects supporting area entrepreneurs, and what we can expect in the future.
Ted is a classic encorepreneur. He began his career practicing law and learned about business through his specialization in mergers and acquisitions. He served on the boards of several public companies, and left the practice of law to serve as Chairman and CEO of LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc., a Fortune 500 company. Today, Ted is an active community leader and recently started a third career as a venture capitalist as a co-founder of NRV. In their spare time, Ted and his wife, Laura Lee, are "adventure" travelers, and Ted spoke about one of their adventures at an encorepreneur breakfast several years ago.
Jim Ukrop, Bob Mooney, and Ted Chandler share a deep belief in the importance of and responsibility for their community. They created NRV in 2011 to leverage their personal resources and extensive networks to ignite and advance creativity and innovation in their community. NRV originally started as a club investment network that pooled investments from around 50 individuals to invest in early stage growth companies in Central Virginia. Under this model, NRV invested $54M in nine companies. They also helped those companies raised an additional $80M from national and international strategic investors.
The Early Stage Growth Fund invests in high growth companies located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Fund has made three investments to date in Health Warrior (www.healthwarrior.com), Nutriati (www.nutriati.com) and Territory (www.territoryfoods.com).

OUR JUNE LOCATION
Benedictine College Preparatory SchoolJune 27, 2017
Most of us are familiar with the downtown location of Benedictine, but far fewer have visited the 50 acre campus where the school moved in 2013. Benedictine will be the 35th new location that Encorepreneur has visited, and we appreciate the help of Paul Kitchen, a veteran encorepreneur, in helping us arrange the visit.
