LISA SCHAFFNER
WEDNESDAY, August 23rd

Most people know Lisa as a news anchor for the Richmond ABC affiliate, WRIC-TV8, where she worked for more than two decades. She joined the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) as Public Relations Director in 2008. Lisa's job is to bring the mission of UNOS to the RVA community and beyond.

The Richmond based United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is a non-profit, organization that administraters the "Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network" which controls the process of maintaining and matching all transplants in the US. Last year there were more than 33,000 lifesaving organ transplants in the United States, and there are currently more than 115,000 patients waiting for one.

Over the years Lisa has been very active in the RVA community. She has been a board member or served on boards of many Richmond area non-profits, including the Central Virginia Foodbank, Meals on Wheels, Easter Seals Virginia and Maymont. Lisa earned a bachelor’s of science in Communications from Ohio University.

Lisa will talk to us about the ethical, technological and financial challenges of maintaining America's transplant network.

With an enrollment of 1,700 students this past year, Huguenot is the largest school in the division, and was recognized for the largest Hispanic student population in the region. The school is considered a model modern public high school, and has hosted Governor Terry McAuliffe, Mayor Levar Stoney, and scores of community leaders in just the past year.
