When Dr. Carey was appointed Secretary of Health and Human Resources by Governor Ralph Northam in January 2018, he could not have fully anticipated how different his term would be from those who went before him. Now approaching a year into the effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Carey will update us on the current situation and on the potential impact of the spike in cases that ihas not been fully felt in Virginia yet. He will also share some of the medical and leadership lessons he has learned from the battle.

Dr. Carey has special interest in medical leadership, and in addition to his roles at Centra, has also served as President of the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine, the Medical Society of Virginia and the MSV Foundation.
