MISS AMERICA - 2020 CAMILLE SCHRIER"WINNING WITH SCIENCE” July 27,2021 - 7:30 am - Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen REGISTER HERE
Our July speaker is Camille Schrier, a scientist who is better known as Miss America - 2020. Camille broke with tradition at the 2019 Miss Virginia Pageant by becoming the first person to perform a science experiment for the onstage talent competition and she won the crown. The following year, she repeated the precedent breaking performance at the 100+ year old MIss America pageant..
The title and Camille’s natural creativity and enthusiasm for science have given her a national and international voice to reach audiences ranging from Virginia grade school students to world leaders. She was the first Miss America to speak in the United Nations General Assembly, and she is perhaps even more proud to have been a commencement speaker at her alma mater in Blacksburg.
Camille will join us on July 27 to tell us about her journey from science student to internationally known advocate for STEM education and drug safety and abuse prevention.
She uses that voice to share her message about the advantages of a STEM education, and to introduce her social impact initiative, "Mind Your Meds: Drug Safety and Abuse Prevention from Pediatrics to Geriatrics".
Camille’s story has “gone viral” and she has been able to reach millions through national and international media outlets such as the Today Show, CNN, BBC and many more, She has developed partnerships with a variety of health related corporations as well as the DEA & CDC, and has been able to bring science to thousands of students throughout the US.
Camille graduated cum laude from Virginia Tech in 2018 with dual Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Biochemistry and one in Systems Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She has completed her first year in a doctoral program at the VCU School of Pharmacy.
