Alex Nyerges is the CEO and Director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and he will welcome Encorepreneur to this beautiful facility for our May breakfast. Alex has led the VMFA for 16 years and, under his leadership, it has become recognized as one of the top 10 comprehensive art museums in the United States. Encorepreneurs will get a unique “before hours” view of the museum and hear about its plans for the future.

VMFA is one of the most inclusive museums in the country. Its motto is "It's your art, Virginia", and Alex has led efforts to improve accessibility to the museum and its collections for all Virginians. Symbolic of that effort is the fact that VMFA is the only major museum in the US to be open 365 days per year with no charge for general admission.

Last year, Alex and the museum’s leadership announced plans for a $170 million expansion and renovation project. The project will add a new wing, enabling the museum to share more art, welcome more visitors, and improve access to all its current and future collections. 

Alex’s career has included 36 years as the chief executive of US museums, but he is also an encorepreneur. He is an internationally-award-winning photographer, curator, author, and photo historian who has exhibited across the United States, Australia, and Europe. His work is in collections in New York, Washington, D.C., Budapest, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Richmond, and elsewhere.
