"HEALTH, HEALING & PURPOSE ON THE WATER"
Joe Mornini & Lance Sharp
TeamRiverRunner.org

Team River Runner (TRR) is a DC based non-profit with a network of 60 local chapters that promote health, healing, community purpose, and new challenges for all veterans, current service members and their families and other community members through adaptive kayaking and other paddling sports. It has served nearly 15,000 veterans and coordinates over 2,200 paddling sessions annually. See this 4-minute video to learn more about TRR.

Richmond is home to nearly 80,000 veterans and is the only city in the US with Class IV rapids within its limits. Despite having a very active kayaking community, the city does not have a chapter of TeamRiverRunner

Our March speakers will introduce you to TeamRiverRunner and talk about how we can create a chapter here in Richmond. And, before we end the meeting, we are going to look to our audience for suggestions, connections, and support in that effort.

OUR SPEAKERS

Joe Mornini spent his career as a teacher and counselor for at risk youth and their families. He began kayaking at the age of 30. He has been paddling for 40 years and is an ACA Level 4 Instructor. He cofounded Team River Runner with Mike McCormick in 2004 with the goal of helping veterans at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Lance Sharp has worked with TRR since 2015. He is an ACA Level 1 Instructor endorsed in Adaptive Paddling and is currently the Administrator for TRR's On the Job Training program. Lance spent 23 years in the Air Force as a flying Crew Chief in Combat Rescue, a technical school instructor, and finally as a First Sergeant.  He recently completed ten years at Quantico working in a Resilience Program for military families, and currently works with the Navy at the Fort Lee MEPS.
