"THE JAMES RIVER IN RICHMOND"
JOHN BRYAN Tuesday February 27 - 8:00 am
Richmond has been called the greatest river town in America, and no one knows it better than our February speaker, John Bryan, the author of the 256-page guide to “The James River in Richmond.” John is going to share his love of the river and give us tips on how to enjoy the best spots, events, and people who make the river what it is. (ALL proceeds from the book are donated to local non-profit organizations.)
John is an accomplished artist and writer, a former Dean of VCU’s School of the Arts, a 2,500-student school that is now ranked #4 among U.S. News & World Reports’ rankings of 214 arts schools. He is the founder and former president of CultureWorks, the organization that champions the arts in Richmond. John’s own artworks have been featured in solo exhibitions in New York City, Nashville, Richmond, and elsewhere.
His writings have included six books and hundreds of articles in such publications as Sports Illustrated, Parade.com, and Delta SKY. His honors include the James River Association’s Guardian of the River Award, the Richmond Jazz Society’s VAJAZZ Award, and the Richmond School Board’s Outstanding Contributions Award. Bryan holds degrees of B.S. from Davidson and M.A. and M.F.A. in painting from Vanderbilt and the City College of New York.

1771 North Parham Road - Near Regency
Born in Richmond, Virginia, shortly after the conclusion of the Civil War, Henry W. Woody lived all his life in the city and established the Woody Funeral Home near Historic St. John’s Church in 1905. The business outgrew the original facility and a new, more modern building was built at 25th Street and Jefferson Avenue in 1916. Mr. Woody continued to serve families of the greater Richmond area from that location until his death in 1958. The company currently has 4 locations including the Parham Road facility. DIRECTIONS
