Our next meeting will be a little different. We’ll be gathering at a new venue—our 71st different location—and instead of having a speaker, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about and tour our host's facility. We will be visiting Build, RVA, a "makerspace" located just north of Scott’s Addition.
A makerspace is a collaborative workspace where a community of entrepreneurs, makers, artists, and inventors come together to build, learn, and experiment with a variety of tools and materials. Build, RVA is owned and operated by The Build Forward Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering individual entrepreneurship, providing hands-on STEM training, encouraging experimentation, and supporting innovation.
Build, RVA offers low-cost access to state-of-the-art tools, resources, and support for those interested in areas like woodworking, glass-blowing, 3D printing, CNC routing, laser cutting, metal forging, and sewing. Like many makerspaces, Build, RVA operates on a membership model, giving members access to the tools, equipment, and facilities they need to bring their projects to life.
One of Build, RVA’s standout programs is its robotics program, designed for young aspiring engineers, coders, and technicians. In partnership with organizations like FIRST Robotics, the program offers affordable training that teaches participants essential skills like teamwork, innovation, and real-world problem-solving.
